The Chiyomusubi Brewery [translates to “Eternal Ties with People”] has been producing sake and now, shochu as well] since 1865. The brewery puts special emphasis on using the locally sourced Goriki rice, an ancient varietal that was all but extinct until a revitalization effort in the 1980s brought it back to life. It is a sturdy rice strain that yields a gentle aroma...so it can withstand aging, which leads us to this gentle aromatic shochu. Excellent on-the-rocks or oyuwari ["with hot water"]. And the darling label? The brewery is located in Tottori, the hometown of renowned manga artist Shigeru Mizuki. The city is known for the bronze statues of Mizuki's characters that line the streets.
